Cosmetic Tattoo

What is a Cosmetic Tattoo?

A cosmetic tattoo is permanent makeup. This is a growing trend in the beauty industry. There are many parts of the body that can receive a cosmetic tattoo. These tattoos can be received on the lips, eyebrows, and eyes for eyeliner. Blush and eyeshadow may also be offered depending on where the cosmetic tattooing will be performed. A needle will place pigmentation on the desired area of the skin, much the same way a tattoo is formed.

How Safe is Cosmetic Tattooing?

Cosmetic tattooing is very safe, however, an individual should do some research before letting just anyone tattoo cosmetics. Dermatologist, cosmetologist, tattoo artists and anestheticians are professionals who can perform cosmetic tattooing as long as they have been properly trained to do so. When looking for a cosmetic tattoo business, make sure the business has been inspected by the local board of health. Be certain to ask the individual performing the tattoo how many years of experience he or she may have, as well as how many cosmetic tattoos they have done. An individual may ask to see a portfolio of the work done as well, but it would be better to see clients they have worked on in person.

When having the cosmetic tattooing done, make certain a fresh needle is used. A new bottle of pigmentation will also needed to be used. This will reduce the risk of infection.

Does Cosmetic Tattooing hurt?

To help reduce any pain associated with cosmetic tattooing, a topical anesthetic should be applied. The experience will be different for every individual based on where the cosmetic tattooing is taking place, as well as what the pain threshold is for the individual receiving the cosmetic tattoo.

How long does the cosmetic tattoo take to heal?

There is a very brief healing period when an individual has cosmetic tattooing. Some individuals will experience slight swelling, however, the individual will be able to resume back to life activities immediately. The healing process takes between 4 to 14 days. During the first few days, the cosmetic tattoo will be brighter than expected. An individual will see a reduction in colour from 20 to 40% during the healing stages. However, with lip cosmetic tattooing, an individual can see up to 80% of colour lost during the healing stage.

How Long Does a Cosmetic Tattoo last?

Cosmetic tattooing can last for several years. The cosmetic tattoo can be permanent or semi-permanent. It has been seen that the eye area will hold the most pigment, thus, cosmetic tattooing tends to last longer in this area then when applied to other areas. Touch up sessions may be needed to keep the cosmetic tattoo looking fresh.

There are some things that an individual can do at home to make sure that the cosmetic tattoo last as long as possible. These include wearing a sunscreen at all times to protect the face from the sun’s rays. A moisturising lip balm or cream should be applied to the lips that have received a cosmetic tattoo in order to keep them well hydrated. Staying out of the sun if possible will help to keep the colours from fading away.

What are the Benefits to Having a Cosmetic Tattoo?

There are many benefits to having a cosmetic tattoo. If an individual has sensitive skin, they may not be able to wear many of the cosmetics that are on the market today. Individuals that are very active, such as swimmers, runners, and hikers, do not always have the time to touch up cosmetics when competing. Cosmetic tattooing allows the individual to have a made up face without constant touch up.

I swim daily. I hate having to apply my makeup in the mornings, then take it all off before I swim in the afternoons. Many times I will have to reapply makeup when I get out of the pool. Cosmetic tattoos would offer me the freedom not to have to do this, which would save me precious time and most likely money in the long run. I believe that I will ask around to see if anyone knows of a great person that can do cosmetic tattooing in my area. I would want a natural look, maybe a nude pink lip and a natural brow with some eyeliner in a brown. This would be a look that I think that I could live with for a long time.

I have heard that a cosmetic tattoo does save a person a lot of time getting ready. I would love to take the plunge and have it done. I would want my eyebrows done, and possibly eyeliner. Does anyone know if I have both of these done, should the procedure be done at the same time? Or would it be wise for me to schedule one, and then wait a bit and then do the other one?

I have had cosmetic tattooing done before on my lips. I had no issues with having it done. My healing time was about ten days, and my lips look great. I do moisturize them daily as I do not want a dry look. If you keep the lips conditioned, then you will see that cosmetic tattooing on the lips can make you look and feel wonderful.

I have always been interested in having cosmetic tattooing done. I hate having to wake up early to do my makeup. It takes just way too long. I just have never gotten around to having it performed. I would do my research and find the best dermatologist that could do it for me. I would like to get eyeliner done, as I wear it daily. And I do have to do touch ups daily, which is a pain. Plus with eyeliner, I hate having the raccoon look from time to time when the weather gets hot and humid. This would solve this issue for me. I think that I might make a resolution to look for a place that does offer cosmetic tattoos.

I have a few tips to offer those that are wanting a cosmetic tattoo. First off, do your research on who will be performing this for you. Only go with the best. You will have to live with this for a long period of time. You want someone that has experience to perform this on you, as you could very well end up with a tattoo that you were not pleased with. Ask for recommendations from others and once you get those recommendations, follow up with that person to see what work they have all done and how long they have been in the business. As stated above, it is crucial that they use only new needles and pigments on you as you do not want to take any risk with infections. Also, I would suggest to stay away from trendy makeup. Go for something classic, that will still be in style a few years down the road. Sure, a blue eyeliner might seem like the way to go now, but in a few years, this trend might not be as popular, and you take the risk of looking dated then. I do think that cosmetic tattooing is a good way to feel confident with the skin that you have, but take the proper precautions and do your homework first so you know what you are getting into.
